Expanding on Qatar’s economic growth and continuing to build UK-Qatar trade links, the MEA is leading a Trade Mission to Qatar in the spring (4th—7th March).
Qatar is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, and is using its vast revenues from energy sources to fund major construction and infrastructure developments. Qatar has made its way into the international spotlight as host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, an event that will draw worldwide attention to the state.
This mission will focus on the opportunities arising from Qatar’s needs as it progresses towards hosting this major international event. The programme will be particularly focussed on infrastructure, transport (rail, ports and roads), construction and capacity building and professional services for major projects.
Qatar and the UK have close ties in trade, finance and politics. In 2011 the UK had a 160% increase in imports from Qatar and a 22% increase in exports with British exports to Qatar doubling in the last few years. The combination of Qatari government policies geared towards diversification and investing in the future and the strong reputation of UK goods and services in the region has aided this strong growth. The political and financial atmosphere in Qatar is bursting with opportunity for every business interest.
