European Atlantic Trade and Investment Missions will be taking a high level trade delegation to Panama on 20-25 March 2012. The mission will be led by Robert Walter MP, who has recently visited the country and has observed the business opportunities there. The mission has the full support of the British Embassy, UKTI, the Panama Trade & Investment Agency, and the Embassy of Panama in the UK. Panama has experienced an economic boom from 2003 to 2008 with an average growth rate of 8%. Fuelled by the expansion of the Panama Canal and extensive infrastructure projects, the economy is forecast to be largely sheltered from the global economic crisis. Panama is the logistics hub for Latin America. It is a hot destination for foreign investment and the UK is the largest investor in the country. UK exports to Panama were worth £204 million and imports were worth £262 million in 2010.

There are business opportunities in:

• marine services
• financial services, telecommunications, e-commerce, insurance, and real estate.
• procurement related to the Panama Canal
• provision of concessionary services to the ports
• logistics, cargo services, security and business consulting
• education; particularly English language and vocational training
• retail sector

This unique trade mission to the exciting new market Panama presents added value as the mission delegates will have a complimentary stand in the UKTI sponsored British pavilion at the international EXPOCOMER International Trade Fair in Panama City, which is the largest commercial trade exhibition in Central America. At the last fair, over 500 companies from 35 countries participated, resulting in transactions totalling more than $124 million.
