The Middle East Association will be leading a British Trade Mission to Mauritania in February-March. The Trade Mission will be accompanied by Tim Morris, British Ambassador to Mauritania, based in Rabat.
This will be the first UK trade delegation to visit Mauritania for some time, following significant steps taken by the UK government to develop ties with the country. The mission programme will include a high level Commercial Reception sure to include influential decision makers in Nouakchott.
A recent UK Parliamentary report discussed the wide range of economic opportunities open to UK investors in Mauritania. These include:
- Extensive Mining and Extraction Industry
- Abundance of minerals including iron ore, gold, gypsum and copper
- Fishing and Agriculture industries
- Offshore Oil and gas reserves
- Power Generation: opportunities in solar and wind energy
- Development of water management and desalination
- Vast potential in Infrastructure and Construction
The Mauritanian government is prioritising the attraction of foreign private investment and the privatisation of the economy, and welcomes British commercial engagement with the country. This mission represents a unique business opportunity for MEA members and contacts to invest in this promising emerging economy.
Prior to the mission, there will be a free Mauritania Market Briefing at the MEA on the afternoon of Monday 16th January, featuring the FCO, a Mauritania specialist, the MEA, and CT Group Travel. For more details and to sign up, please email Chris Moses at the MEA – chrism@the-mea.co.uk.
