The Middle East Association will be taking a Trade Mission to Egypt from 3rd to 8th November. It will visit Cairo and Alexandria.

The mission will be multi-sector but will have an emphasis on:

• Education and Training, including technical and vocational partnerships, English language skills, e-learning, developing training programmes, material and equipment, and partnerships with UK institutions.
• Financial Services, including banking, insurance and PPP advisory.
• Oil and Gas, including onshore and offshore exploration, field development, HSE services, capacity building, and LNG pipelines.
• Power and Renewable Energy, including electricity, solar power, onshore wind and bio fuels.

Other key market sectors in Egypt include Construction & Infrastructure, Environment & Water, ICT and Retail.

Egypt has a population of over 80 million and its economy is one of the most diversified in the region. The UK is Egypt’s largest foreign investor based on cumulative FDI figures since 1970.

Despite the recent political upheaval, UK exporters have maintained their close links with the country, with visible exports totalling £1.038 bn in 2011. Visible imports from Egypt totalled £793m last year, an 18% increase on 2010 figures.

Economic growth remains robust, predicted to be 3%. There are over 900 UK invested businesses in the country, with a diverse investment portfolio that includes oil and gas, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications.
